Shamanism is the oldest spiritual practice known to humankind, dating back tens of thousands of years. It draws on the power of mother nature and ancient wisdom traditions from every part of the world to provide healing and helps people to reconnect to their natural selves and wild souls.
Therapeutic Shamanism combines the principles and practices of shamanic work with those of modern counselling and psychotherapy, using techniques such as journeying to reconnect with lost parts, empowering and enabling the client to reach their full potential. It works well alongside more traditional forms of psychotherapy and is very needed at this time, particularly for those living in busy urban areas with little access to the natural world.
Shamanic Healers believe illness and ‘dis-ease’ are caused by one of two things: a lack of power or a loss of soul. Power loss occurs when we cut ourselves off and lose our sense of inter-connectedness to the natural world. Soul loss occurs due to traumatic events or when we repeatedly deny and repress parts of ourselves, often to survive difficult situations.
Shamanic Healing sessions can offer clients direct healing by helping them to reconnect with the power available to them in nature and retrieve lost parts of the soul by being guided on a journey and/or being taught how to journey themselves. If you feel drawn to working in this way, please let me know and I can offer you a one off session or can incorporate shamanic healing into ongoing therapeutic work.
